YouTheatre

Class Sessions offered for area students ages preK thru adult in acting, dance, musical theatre, and technical theatre, visual arts, and other specialty areas. Sessions run from 5-13 weeks and classes typically meet once per week (after school hours and on Saturdays). Classes usually end with an end-of-session informal “sharing” for parents and friends. There are Fall (September-November), Winter, (Jan-Feb), Spring (Feb-May) & Summer (June-August) Sessions each year.  Scholarships are available for students with financial need.

Week-long Morning and Day Camps are offered throughout the Summer months for rising 1st-12th grade students. The focus is typically drama, though some Musical Theatre and Specialty Camps are offered.  An overnight Drama Boarding Camp is sometimes offered for rising 8th-12th grade students.

YouTheatre produces two Mainstage plays as part of the Flat Rock Playhouse season with acting company comprised mostly of YouTheatre students. In addition, YouTheatre also sponsors a Playwriting Contest in the Henderson County School system and the winning Plays are produced each year. The winners also receive cash prizes and Playhouse tickets. Advanced level classes produce informal “Cabarets” of class-material throughout the academic year.

When time allows, YouTheatre performs short skits or performance collages in the community—especially in December as part of their annual Christmas Tour.

Apprentice Company

An apprenticeship at Flat Rock Playhouse is exactly what you need to take your education in theatre and expand it into a career in theatre.

The Vagabond Players were founded in 1936 and from the inception of the Company, training theatre artists has been a vital part of the mission. Over the years more than 1,000 students have benefited form the challenging and rewarding experience of being an Apprentice on The Rock. Many continue to be a part of the Company and of the full time staff, 50% started their career with the Playhouse as Apprentices. The Company of Vagabond Players believes in growing our own and maintaining lasting relationships.
